Air America's Future?

There have been no less than a half dozen columns today, and O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo dealing with the news that Air America could lose it's satellite here in New York by the spring.

The little mean guy in me says "good, you got what you deserved," but that would be shadenfreud (I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong). The truth is, Air America, Franken and the rest just never had a clue. They don't understand what successful talk radio is all about. They don't understand respect for other people's views or opinions. Worst of all, they believe that anybody who doesn't think the way they do is either stupid or evil.

Do they really think that all they need to do to keep a captive audience is attack O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Fox News,... Is that the depth and intellect of their audience? Do their listeners tune in every day just to hear these people call Bill O'Reilly nasty names?

Air America is a business, a failed busines at that, but businesses come and go. What is really sad is that these people remain clueless about the average American radio listener.

If you thought you had spelled shadenfreud incorrectly (which you didn’t), why not just check it instead of going to the trouble of saying you figured that for sure you had?

As for AAR programs existing solely for the purpose of attacking Fox News pundits, that’s a complete mischaracterization of their programming.

They don't understand respect for other people's views or opinions.

Irony, thy name is Skorski…

So I suppose Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage can attribute their radio popularity to their respect for others' viewpoints?

To aguagon,
I don't listen to Savage enough to know how he deals with callers or those he disagrees with. In the case of Limbaugh, Hannity, and others, they will debate anybody as long as their opponents are respectful and don't go off half cocked.

I have responded to a few hundred emailers who have criticized my comments about Franken on C-Span, O'Reilly, and others. As long as people are respectful (don't have to agree with me) and have a valid point to make, I'm happy to engage them. If you look at the post above yours from red tory, there's really nothing to respond to. He says nothing, and therefore deserves no response.

Firstly, though O'Reilly has cited this misinformation constantly, AAR is not going off the air any time soon. AAR is gaining stations weekly!

Secondly, have you ever even listened to Franken's show? It is absolutely content- and idea-based. He invites guests from every political and ideological background on the program daily to discuss issues (what a novel concept!) from border control to healthcare to campaign finance reform. I applaud Franken for taking the initiative in changing the tone of the nation's discourse from a partisan battle to have the last word into an exchange of ideas. Essentially the only time Franken badmouths O'Reilly and his ilk is when these reactionary pundits state a falsehood (such as the one you are disseminating on your blog) or when they engage an especially spectacular display of bigotry and intolerance. In other words, Franken attacks Bill's attacks.

desdemona 83,

you:AAR is gaining stations weekly!

Me: Where? AA has been on the air for 2 years. They have under 100 affiliates (Rush had that many after 3 month's) and many of them are on stations with weak listenership or short range.

Secondly, have you ever even listened to Franken's show?
Me: I listened for 3 hrs a day for over a year for my book.

In response to the rest of your post, he does not open his show to people of different perspectives.Only guests who are hostile to the Bush administration are welcome. BTW, that's fine with me, he's not obligated to let Bush-friendly people on his show. I'm just surprised that you, a Franken oficianado didn't realize that.
